The Tyrant

Ok, you all know that I love my husband and think he's great. Please know that what I write here is written in love and for fun. I must admit to you all . . .

that my husband is a TOY TYRANT!

That man seriously cannot stand ANY toys. Abigail now has a fair amount of toys for a girl of her age. They all primarily fit into a "toy basket" and then a few larger ones (a toy piano, scooter, rocking horse, ball popper, etc) fit into the hall closet. The living room CAN get cleaned up (toy-less) in a hurry if necessary.

However, there are still too many toys in our house for my husband. He cleaned out the toy box last night and made me give all the toys back that the sitter had loaned us (to the sitter), put some away upstairs, etc.

I can see him cringe and roll his eyes a little every time a new toy comes in the house. I think the solution is to work on our basement and create a "kid" friendly play room. I don't know. I am thankful that his up-tight-ness about toy mess does lead him to pick up the toys more often than he might otherwise.

Perhaps I should post pictures of the toys/living room area and I can get opinions on if it is too much or not! :)

Aaron made me a 3 1/2' x 1 1/2' toy box...and not all their toys fit in there!!! AND I have a tub of toys in the shed! (I like to switch them out now & again...the kids feel like they're getting new toys every time!). My kids do have too many toys. I mean, there's no way they'd ever be able to play with all those toys. I can't thin out the toys with Anna around...suddenly every toy becomes her favorite! ha And also, I would feel horrible if I got rid of a toy that family gave them (which is a lot of toys! ha). I'm with you...finish the basement and make a play room! I should send him picutres of our living room and the kids' room...he would be cringing and eye-rolling for a year! ha

Donnie will hate me for this comment because he thinks it's rude to respond with a pet story when people are talking about their kids... but I don't think he reads this so oh well. I am a TOY TYRANT about Zola's toys (Zola is our dog). She has a small toy basket that fits on the bottom of a bookshelf. Anytime I see her toys on the floor I pick them up and put them in the basket. This makes her think I'm playing so she automatically takes them out and scatters them throughout the apartment. Grrrr... I cannot keep dog toys off the floor. They are everywhere. I've had to get to the point where I just consider them invisible so they don't bother me. Still, it's annoying when the house is perfectly clean except for a bunch of cruddy dog toys all over the place.

Ha! Kayla that's funny. I get easily annoyed by our dog's toys too, so I guess it goes both ways. I think that secretly he just wants a clean house but I guess he's out-of-luck since I can't seem to get that accomplished!

You do not have too many toys!!! Almost all of them fit into a basket. I love the idea of a basement area for toys, you guys have some great space down there. Also, it will be warm soon and she will be roaming the backyard! More toys there you know! Those wonderful toys help her play on her own, teach her important things and Andrew had a bunch of them himself. Don't let the tyrant rule!

Don't worry. I'm fighting the Toy Tyrant (as much as I can).
