These are the days . . .

What a crazy night! I used to wonder (back when I had one baby) how in the world people did it with more than one. Now I know . . . you just do it because you have to!

Everyone's healthy as a horse (well relatively) but I still got up with each person last night.

It started with Elsie at 11:30 pm. I'd been asleep but I woke up to her sitting up and crying. She's been very fussy and "off" for about a week now but is not running a temperature or anything. The only thing I can think it is would be her teeth, which she still has two left to go . . . then we're done. Whew! I gave her motrin and she slept the rest of the night.

About 12:30 am, Abigail came upstairs and woke Andrew up saying she couldn't quit coughing. Poor girl still has lingering cough/lung issues after a cold. He took her downstairs and gave her some honey and toast (our usual cough remedy). I was still awakened even though he was kind enough to handle it.

Well, she continued to cough in bed and since Andrew has sleeping issues, he couldn't go back to sleep. I went down eventually and propped Abigail up on pillows and that seemed to help her cough. Went back upstairs to scratch Andrew's back until he went to sleep.

Then before I could drift off . . . Noah. Needed changed and nursed.

I finally got to go back to sleep but then Noah was up again at 4 am, 6 am, 7 am, and 8:15 am (and he is still sleeping and it's 9:15). Abigail also came upstairs saying she was hungry at 6:30 am. Andrew told her to go back to bed. She did and slept until 8:30 am!! Which is very late.

Whew! Anyone else tired? I am.

Not all nights are like that, thankfully and I know this too shall pass. I'm blogging this so that someday when my kids are in college or grown and gone and I wish for just one second to hold their precious little baby bodies again and kiss their sweet baby cheeks, I'll remember that as much as I love them (which is a lot, believe me) not every moment is rosy!! :)

Off to have some tea (since I've given up coffee).

Zoo trip

So . . . many many moons ago we took a trip to the zoo. Then I got busy with life and birthdays and sick whiny kids and did not get a chance to blog about it . . . until now.

Woo hoo!

So anyway, my mother-in-law and I took all the kids to the zoo one day. Abigail had earned it with her sleeping sticker chart.

It was fun! We could have spent more time there but we needed to get back home for Bible study and before Elsie needed a nap.

My boy, Noah, was so good. I hardly knew he was there!

Abigail by the elephants.

Elsie by the giraffes. (Abigail said these were her favorites.)

Elsie is chasing a peacock. This girl is very different than her sister, who ran away screaming (okay, not really but she was afraid of them).

Polar bears!

We had such a fun time. I am looking forward to more trips next year when it warms up. The kids will be even older and will be able to enjoy it more!

Behind

Oh my, I'm behind . . . again.

I have lots of stuff to blog, just no time to do it. Maybe soon.

Very busy week with lots of activities, birthdays and cooking!

Food Blogging Friday - Smashed Sweet Potatoes with Honey

This is a recipe that I got from Rachael Ray. It's definitely yummy!

Take sweet potatoes. Wash, Peel, and Cube them.

Boil 'em. :)

Return them to the pot and mash with chicken stock, honey, orange juice. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Sorry I forgot to take a finished picture. Ah! I'm so bad at this photography stuff.

Anyway, these are a healthy and delicious side to add to any meal.

Smashed Sweet Potatoes with Honey
Rachael Ray
  • 2 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • Salt and pepper
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste
Boil the potatoes until tender; drain and return them to the hot pot. Mash with the chicken stock, honey and lemon juice and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg, to taste.

Eluding the Paparazzi

My Elsie Monster! :)

She climbed to the top of the stairs for the first time today (Wednesday, October 5). I showed her once how to slide down. Next thing I know she climbed up and down all by herself. My girl is growing up!
